The publisher is one of the factors that most influences the quality and value of a facsimile. Spain is one of the countries with the longest tradition in this sector, because many of the great medieval codices are preserved in its libraries and cathedrals.
Spanish publishers
- M. Moleiro (Barcelona): known for its exacting standards in color and gold reproduction. At the Club you can see, for example, the Beatus of Liébana of Santo Domingo de Silos, the St. Louis Bible or the Breviary of Isabella the Catholic.
- Siloé, art and bibliophilia (Burgos): editions such as the Bestiary of Don Juan of Austria or the Codex Calixtinus of the University of Salamanca.
- Editorial Company Testimonial (Madrid): a wide catalogue of Spanish and European codices.
- Kaydeda Editions: linked to the history of the facsimile of the Codex Calixtinus.
- Vicent García Editores, Scriptorium y AyN Ediciones, among other houses with editions of manuscripts, maps and books of hours.
European publishers
- Faksimile Verlag (Lucerne, Switzerland).
- ADEVA (Graz, Austria).
- Franco Cosimo Panini (Modena, Italy).
What to look for in an edition
- Limited and numbered edition, with certificate.
- Authorization from the institution that holds the original.
- Study volume signed by specialists.
- Color fidelity, support and binding.
